Virtual Hula Camp with Kumu Kilohana Silve

Hula Camp with Kumu Kilohana Silve!

Mānoa Heritage Center is excited to offer another Fall Break hula camp! This year's camp is open to students ages 8-12 and will be taught by renowned Kumu hula Kilohana Silve. With Hālau o Mānoa haumāna in France, Italy, Japan, China and the US, Kumu Kilohana has been busy engaging and teaching her students virtually, over Zoom. Slated for October 5-9, 2020, during the Hawai‘i Department of Education's (HIDOE) fall break, the hula camp will be virtual. During each two hour session, interactive activities include making hula implements, lei and storytelling.  Daily live zoom excursions into the MHC garden will introduce participants to Kūka‘ō‘ō Heiau and the mo‘olelo (stories) of native plants. We are encouraging interested family members to join as well! Kupuna (grandparent), makua (parent) and older siblings are welcome to join. Using MHC's garden of native plants and Mānoa's wind and rain as inspiration, families will have a wonderful week of learning and discovery through hula and oli. The week will culminate in a virtual exhibition illustrating the story of Kahalaopuna, the rainbow beauty of Mānoa, and a virtual Ho‘olau‘lea wearing adornments made during the week and performance of hula. Reconnect with the ‘āina (land) and learn by doing — ma ka hana ka ‘ike!
