Summer Solstice Livestream

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday June 20

6:00 AM  –  7:00 AM

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to MHC in person in early July. In the meantime, we are excited to invite you to a Virtual Kahaukani Conversations event, in anticipation of the Summer Solstice.

As the Summer Solstice is upon us (Saturday, June 20) we have invited special guest(s) to share their interpretation of the significance of this solar phenomenon with the goal of better understanding ourselves in this place (Hawai‘i) and time. These conversations will take place next Wednesday, June 17.

On June 20, the sun will reach Ke Alanui Polohiwa a Kāne (The Black Glistening Path of Kāne), its northernmost point in the sky.  Why is this significant?  How might this have been interpreted through history? How might this time marker intersect with the existence of Kuka‘o‘o Heiau?

Schedule of Events;

Wednesday, June 17 at 10:00 AM: Please join us via Zoom to hear Kumu Tai Crouch share his mana‘o about this significant solar transition.  There will be time for Q&A.

Saturday, June 20 at 6:00-7:00 AM:   Please join us via Facebook Live as we observe this event from Kuka‘o‘o Heiau, here in Manoa Valley. *

*Weather permitting

Please register for these events through the link in bio.  Zoom link will be provided to registrants by email.
