Siapo Design Workshop with Kumu Wes Sen
SAT MAR 15, 9 am - 12 pm
1-session: $85 (includes materials kit)
Join Kumu Wes Sen to learn about traditional Siapo (Samoan tapa) designs, as taught to him by Mary Pritchard. Traditional dyes will be used, including Oʻa (Blood tree, Bischofia Javanica) which produces a brown dye; Ago (turmeric, Curcuma longa) which makes a yellow dye; Loa (Lipstick tree, Bixa orellana) which creates a red dye; and Lama (Candlenut tree, Aleurites moluccanus) which produces a black dye. Students will make a hat or headband, using the Elei rubbing method with highlights in black or use hand-drawn motifs.
Limited to 10 students
