SAT SEPT 20
9 am – 12  pm
1-session $45

Experience the beauty of Japanese kōzo. Paper mulberry (Broussonetia papyrifera), or wauke in Hawai‘i, is the same plant used to make Hawaiian kapa and Japanese kōzo. Come prepared to pull beautiful, translucent sheets of paper or shape over armatures of your own making. The instructor will have soaked, cooked, and beaten the fiber so it will be ready to use. For those interested in taking home damp sheets to work with over time, please bring your own Pellon (can be purchased at Kaimuki Dry Goods) so that you can store the sheets in the refrigerator. Long, unbeaten pieces of cooked bark will be available to make lace or netting.

For intermediate papermakers and above. You must have taken Intro to Papermaking with Allison at MHC to join the paper club. Participants will be responsible for helping to set up and clean up.

Participants must be able to pick up finished paper the following week.

Limited to 6 participants. A minimum of 4 is necessary to run the course.
