Nature Journaling with Kate Righter
SAT SEPT 14, 9:00 am - 11:00 am
1-session: $20
Want to spend your morning connecting with nature at Mānoa Heritage Center? Join artist and writer Kate Righter for an Introduction to Nature Journaling! During this workshop, you will reawaken your creative spirit with relaxing art and writing activities, and learn how to deepen your awareness of the natural world through mindful observation.
What is Nature Journaling?
Nature Journaling is the practice of recording thoughts and observations of the ʻāina using words, pictures, and numbers. It all begins with stepping outside with paper, a pen or a pencil, and an open mind. You don’t need to be an artist, writer, naturalist, or scientist; you just need to be curious!
What will the workshop involve?
Each class is unique, inspired by what is happening in the garden that day and the participants’ interests and abilities. The workshops begin with an introduction to the three main habits of nature journaling, followed by time spent outdoors with opportunities for both guided and independent journaling. Each session concludes with a chance to share and reflect on the experience.
Please note that exploring the gardens of Mānoa Heritage Center requires walking on uneven ground, including stone pathways, stairs, and grassy hillsides. However, there are also accessible, covered walkways with access to native plants and beautiful views. Workshops are held rain or shine.
Each participant should bring their own:
-Journal, notebook, or sketchbook
-Pencil or pen
-Colored pencils (optional)
-Mat or towel to sit on (MHC also has campstools participants may use)
-Hat and sunscreen
-Water in a reusable bottle
