Nature Journaling Jul 20 24

SAT JUL 20

9 am - 11 am

1 session - $15

Spend a morning connecting with nature at Mānoa Heritage Center, learning about the plants through mindful observation. Learn how to reawaken your creative spirit with fun and simple drawing and writing activities. Join artist Kate Righter for an introduction to Nature Journaling!

What is Nature Journaling?

Nature Journaling is the creative practice of recording thoughts and observations of the ʻāina using words, pictures, and numbers.

It all begins with stepping outside with paper, a pen or a pencil, and an open mind. You don’t need to be an artist, writer, naturalist, or scientist, you just need to be curious!

What will the workshop include?

The morning will include a mix of lessons designed to inspire deeper observation and awareness of the natural world. Participants will be encouraged to apply a variety of creative techniques and scientific methods of inquiry to their conversations and projects. We will learn the Hawaiian names for native plants, animals, and places, and I will share moʻolelo appropriate to the time and place.

Every lesson is flexible and based on the experiences and situations of the day and the interests of the class. Ultimately, the land is the best teacher, and remaining open to what can be learned in the moment is the most important lesson.

Each participant should bring their own:

-Journal, notebook, or sketchbook

-Pencil with an eraser

-Black pen

-Colored pencils (optional)

-Mat or towel to sit on (MHC does have campstools participants may use)

-Sunscreen

-Hat if desired

-Water in a reusable bottle

Visit Kate Righter's website for more information about supplies needed for nature journaling.

Limited to 15 participants.

Open to participants age 12 and up.
