Fall Break Hula Camp 2021
Fall Break Hula Camp with Kumu Kilohana Silve

After a successful in-person Summer Hula Camp in June, Kumu Kilohana is offering another hula camp over Fall Break (Oct 11-15)! We will take advantage of outdoor spaces and the classroom with large doors that allow the Mānoa breeze to flow through. All students ages 12 and up will need to show proof of COVID vaccination (or present a negative COVID test taken within the previous 48 hours of the first day). Participants will also need to complete a mandatory COVID waiver and temperatures will be checked each day. Students must wear a paper or cloth mask.

The theme of hula camp will celebrate the Makahiki season and will feature mo‘olelo (stories) about Lono and native plants associated with him as well as some of the games played during Makahiki. Each participant will make their own pair of kala‘au (rhythm sticks) to be used in learning a Hula Noho (sitting hula), "Ua Nani O Nu‘uanu." A Hula Auana about Mānoa Valley will also be taught, "Rain Tuahine O Mānoa." There will be time to explore the garden through observation and sketching as well. Using MHC's garden of native plants and Mānoa's wind and rain as inspiration, families will have a wonderful week of learning and discovery through hula and oli.

Reconnect with the ‘āina and learn by doing — ma ka hana ka ‘ike!
